I have stopped at this shop on a number of occasions on my way home to Glasgow. Lots of stock, friendly and informative advice. Does not try to sell customers items they don't need. Excellent sevice and bargain prices. I've told all my friends.
I visit evey year, sometimes twice.

Have visited Richard's shop in Peddar Street many times over a lot of years, he is always helpful whether you spending a penny or a pound, everything is well displayed and easy to look at. He always seems to have a good stock of almost everything you ask for and to me the prices are good and competative from my observations. Always service with a smile, so all I can say is carry on the good work.

I have just returned to railway modelling after a break of a few years and now living in Morecambe, The Train Shop was naturally my first port of call. What an absolute delight! When I entered Richard was busy with a number of customers and while I browsed he was courteous and helpful with everyone and come my turn, was only too happy to bring me up-to-date and answer my questions. I made my purchases and was pleasantly surprised when I saved quite a sum on the list prices. (Slightly lower than Hatton's) which is excellent for a small shop. Equally impressive is the fact that you can try your locomotive purchases right there on the track running along the counter which is wired for both DC and DCC. Although now open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday only, Richard assured me that he is not intending to give up anytime soon! Naturally, I will be building my new layout with Richards stock! Highly recommended!

Of the many model shops I have visited this is by far the best. Very knowledgeable and friendly owner. I bought my limited edition falcon from here, plus kestrel and many more cheaply on the market. One small word of warning phone manner is not great better to visit. A while since I have been hope all is ok.

Really helpful, friendly and the prices are very reasonable and competitive, backed up by excellent after sales. You really feel the proprietor cares about his customers, nothing is too much trouble and time to explain technical matters to you is given freely and willingly. The second hand models are all excellent runners and lovely condition, again priced very reasonably and competitive. A very comprehensive stock is kept cover every aspect of our hobby.
All in all a very pleasurable experience warm and friendly

I dont know which planet Mr Hamley is from but my experience of the shop is exactly the opposite of his. You are greeted as a friend from the first footstep into this little treasure trove of a shop. I've been several times and have purchased a few bargains. The help and knowledge of the owner is surpassed by none. Highly recommended.

I have bought over half my collection from The Train Shop, and can only endorse what most of the other reviewers have said here. Wide range of stock, always up to date with new releases, and priced very keenly indeed - my last purchase was cheaper than Hattons list price, so allowing for postage, was even more of a bargain. Richard knows his stock and his customers, and never ignores them - even when busy, he takes a second to greet anybody entering by name. Highly recommended

Shop is only open Thurs/Fri/Sats now. Best model shop I've been in for many years. A must visit. Prices very good, and service is just right. Helpful if you need it, or happy to leave you alone if you just want to browse.

I would say I have been very lucky to have found Richards shop I'm disabled and here I'm treated with respect. He knows a lot about model trains and has helped me a lot he doesn't suffer fools but when you need help he is there. He is fitting buffer items for me in his spare time because of my sausages for fingers there are few who would do that today. And yes everything you need for a new layout is here or he will try and get it for you all you need is a little respect.

Visited the Train Shop several times in recent years. Always found the owner very accomodating and knowledgable. His prices were always very competative and often had some excelent second hand bargains. However, visited the shop on the 7th & 8th of February this year and found it closed both days. Given that he is usually closed on Wednesday, has he finished trading? Maybe he was on holiday or ill. Can anyone advise further. It will be a great loss if he has closed down.

I have visited this shop many times, and always made welcome. Advice is given on many probs I had, and Richard will steer you in the right direction if you have any problems.
If you are building a layout from new, you will not need to visit another shop as there is all you will need right there. My layout was built from his stock, from track pins to all rolling stock and scenery. So from me its a 5 Star. Ken.

The owner is extremely friendly and helpful, he always carrys out minor price adjustments to his sales ,and has a shop ful of goods to tempt you. When visiting always allow time as although you appear to be in only minutes you can over run your parking allowance!

I rang this shop to ask for information and stock information on a loco which was not current, after being dropped in 2010. They were very rude and not very helpful over the phone.
I would say this store lacks customer service skills, they even questioned by telephone manor. I can fully understand if they didn't have it as it's not current, but how they dealt with the call was very poor.
I would advise other to shop somewhere else or just go in and get what you want as your be shown their true customer service skills.
