Have only visted Alton Model Centre 3 or 4 times, however each time the counter was being "held up" by locals who seem to hold very strong "purist" views on the Hobby, not something I particually care for, making the forcful enquires on product selection very off-putting. On of my visit left me witnessing the shop keeper instructing a small child as to why he should not run a wagon with Thomas The Tank Engine for prototypicality reasons - who cares?!
Although product range is vast prices are around average for a highstreet model shop. Well worth a visit for those hard to find items however not the most welcoming shop for the hobbyist rather than the hardcore modeller.

I drive from Kent to Alton just to shop here. There is nowhere better for model railway goods. They know it all. Nothing is too much trouble. Prices are at a good level. Just heading to the car for another visit!

Discovered he had large stocks of bits for pre chinese Hornby. If something goes wrong if he has the part he will repair it. Its also a loveley shop with lots of stock. A place to think what would life be if you had more money

I have always found Alton Modle centre able to come up trumps with rare and difficult to find items. I have been watching E bay for a later Bachmann Manor, and on impulse I called Alton M.C. Would you believe it they had stock and I purchased one forthwith at about the same or less price I would have paid on E Bay.

I have known this owner since I was 12, 50 years ago, when he was located in Reading near the station. And I was at school. Been using Alton Model Centre for many years and nothing is to much trouble, no matter what you need the owner, enjoys the challenge and always comes up with an satisfactory answer. Excellent service, with a amazing stock. If you cannot see what you want, just ask the owner and he will have it in his shop, or order it. I always look forward to visiting and find it hard leaving without buying anything.

I have always found the staff at Alton Model Centre to be really helpful and customer friendly. Nothing is to much trouble and I have very often been lucky in finding elusive models there

A brilliant model shop for anyone interested especially in model railways. Bob and caroline are both very knowledgable and go out of their way to help in any way they can. The choice of stock - new and second hand is enormous. It's a shame there are so few model shops offering this standard of service today.

A really knowledgable Owner who can repair 3 rail Hornby Dublo. Excellent stock fantastic selection, up to the minute with advice. A great transport and railway model outlet.

An outstanding shop with a great selection of stock from various manufacturers. This is all complimented by the knowledgable and friendly staff. Always a pleasure to go there and buy or discuss the latest products coming out.
